Excellent! I can stuff my laments in a sack, at least for a week. Thanks, man. Good ‘cast, especially with the bazillion ways to store hand tools.
There are two factors I can’t dismiss with hand tool storage:
1. I travel to and from the States periodically (once every couple/few years) – often enough that my storage needs to be at least somewhat portable.
2. The humidity here is crazy, and my shop is not climate-controlled with A/C. Therefore, my tools need to be encased and protected with silica gel and whatnot.
So these two factors make me think about having individual boxes (a chisel box, a plane box, etc) that are maybe stored within a larger box/chest. When I move, I’ll pack the smaller boxes and leave the chest behind.
At least, that’s what I’m thinking about for now…Thanks for the food for thought.
Dave,
Great post! I am definately in the build a cabinet camp. It’s the OCD in me. Cabinets keep the dust off things and dust attracts moisture which rusts tools. I have worked long and hard to buy some of my newer planes and chisels and I want them pretty! Of course I haven’t built the cabinet yet…
Matt V and I were just talking about this repeated usage of words. We decided to start a drinking game everytime he says actually. So if I add lament in then I am in for a rough night.
